TITANIC RECORDS TO MAKE COMPLETE, LIVE RECORDING

OF WAGNER'S TRISTAN UND ISOLDE

IN SOFIA, BULGARIA ON FEBRUARY 8, 2004

NEW YORK, November 24, 2003 -- Titanic Records has announced that it will make a new, complete recording of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. The live recording will be made from the full performance of this masterpiece that is being staged at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Bulgaria on February 8, 2004. Glen Cortese will conduct the 99-piece Bulgarian Festival Orchestra. Marc Deaton www.marcdeaton.com and Susan Marie Pierson www.susanmariepierson.com will portray the tragic lovers. New York City-based Shotgun Productions is producing.

"New, live classical music recordings of major operatic works like Tristan und Isolde are becoming more and more rare because of increasing costs and the ability to find a suitable cast that can meet the rigorous demands of the score," said Mr. Cortese. "We've assembled a cast of world-caliber singers - however what we've done is find singers to portray Tristan and Isolde who are not only already well-acknowledged professionally, but who are just beginning their tenure in these career-making roles. To me, that makes this project very exciting - the chance to launch two accomplished singers into what could very well become their signature roles."

The American cast also includes Gwendolyn Jones as Brangane, David Mallis as Kurwenal, Ethan Herschenfeld as King Marke, Timothy Jon Sarris as the Sailor/Shepherd. Dugg McDonough will direct the production in Bulgaria.

East Meets West in a Grand Tradition

"The reason to do a new recording of a classic work is to create something different - both in the actual product and in the process," said Patricia Klausner, managing director of Shotgun Productions. "Tristan und Isolde in Sofia has been created through the spirit and determination of all those involved, from the artists to the event management. The lure of producing a project like this is two-fold. First is the collaboration of American and Bulgarian artists. The Bulgarian Festival Orchestra has recorded with most major classical music labels and is highly accomplished. We are proud to aid the joining of two diverse cultures in such a grand artistic endeavor. Second, Shotgun exists to support emerging artists. Through this project, we are able to support outstanding American opera talent."

Documentary in Production

A key component of the Tristan und Isolde in Sofia project is a documentary that is being produced and created by Brent Sterling. Mr. Sterling is a well-known documentarian whose series "Souls of New York" is currently shown on PBS.

"What intrigued me about this project is the fact that it's a story about people who are taking control of their careers and making something happen for themselves," said Mr. Sterling. "I'm hoping to capture all the things that a classical artist must endure in order to have a career in opera today. My impression is that, at a different time, an impressario might sweep in and make someone's career. Today, artists need to create their own opportunities - and that's exactly what's happening here. I think it's a story that can be inspiring for other artists who are trying to make their way."
